The first appearance of Holy Virgin was on 24th June 1981 and numerous pilgrims have been visiting Međugorje ever since. Medugorje can be compared with Lourdes in France and Fatima in Portugal.
Međugorjea- place of pilgrimage and a catholic shrine The city shaped like a jewel, has kept its medieval walls, a cathedral, churches, museums, galleries. Korčula-Marco Polo, the world famous traveller and explorer, was born in the city of Korčula in 1254. According to a legend Odysseus spent seven years there. Mljet-thanks to its specific beauty and many natural resources: the Great Lake with the Mary`s Island (a 13th century Benedictine abbey is located there) and the Small Lake, one third of Mljet was declared a National Park in 1960. Oysters, mussels and other seafood from the Mali Ston Bay are worldwide known. The visitors are so impressed by the length of the wall, they even call the walls "Europa`s Chinese Wall". Veliki and Mali Ston-towns with the longest medieval walls in Europe. In Dubrovnik there are many museums, galleries, famous churches, monasteries, waterwells, a 15th century monastery pharmacy (the third oldest in Europe) and a synagogue (one of the oldest in the south-east Europe).
At that time the Riviera of the Pelješac Peninsula had total of 60 sailing ships and it made the Riviera the second important maritime fulcrum.ĭubrovnik - the jewel of the southern Adriaĭubrovnik - the city monument - is world famous. The seafaring tradition had its prosperity in the 19th century. For a long time the Riviera of the Pelješac Peninsula has been, together with its towns and places (Orebić, Viganj, Lovište, Kučište and Trstenik), a homeland of sailors. Orebić- is situated on the southern coast of the Pelješac Peninsula.
